This wall area behind the seated boy is a detail from the trompe l'oeil mural, Excavate, located in Quackenbush Square in Albany, New York.
Excavate, like the majority of AlbanyMural public artworks, is a permanent outdoor mural executed in Keim water-glass, silicate sol, pigments. The actual wall is solid gray concrete; the bricks, lumber and book are all painted in trompe l'oeil style. (The boy and lunch box are real, not painted.)
